The Vanjaris were grain carriers and traders of commodities including quality cattle which they used to breed. During British rule, due to modernisation, Vanjaris changed their traditional occupations. As a result, many of them settled down as farmers near mountains and hilly regions. As of today, the number of Vanjaris is estimated around 7 million. The Vanjari Community belongs to upper Rajput Class in Rajastan and Kashmir. The fair colour of large number of Vanjari people genetically transferred element of Rajput High class. Vanjari sell goods in remote parts of country as well and they have access to many communities through trade.Almost all vanjaris now are engaged in farm sector and large number of them are highly educated.The Vanjari Community in Maharashtra is harmless in the sense that the community members never come on the road for any kind of destruction of public property.The Vanjaris don't maintain any caste pride and comfortable with members of all religions and castes.
